I stopped obsessing like that

I stopped obsessing like that once i started eating the foods that were in those aisles. Same with Food network. I would watch the desert shows and drool and look at desert recipes. Now that I allow myself to eat those foods, i stopped being interested in desert shows and recipes.

babyfood

I hear you on the babyfood section.. it's so light and it actually was a good way for me to actually start eating calories and keep it down because it didn't feel like a brick in my stomach!.. the baby oatmeal is my fav.. wow I feel psycho when I realize I like babyfood.. but hey.. I figure.. whatever works or helps ! I also love all of those cake shows on tv... but it can be very triggering, but the more I actually let myself watch the show and enjoy it for other reasons... like the art work the bakers were creating... and how happy the clients were with their cakes.. I can watch it now and not really give thought to making it a massive binge!

I work in a supermarket.

I work in a supermarket. Every time I have to go out back for my break I always find myself going up the same isle - the confectionary one. To stop myself from buying binge foods I have to make sure I leave my money in my locker or at home. But I still find myself picking random things up and reading the labels.

I love going to the grocery

I love going to the grocery store too! It seems pretty extreme at times, but I like going down the bakery aisle and definitely ice cream. It's better if I go with someone else and make plans for afterwards. This way, I don't buy a bunch of food to b/p.

yeah, me too.

I can spend hours in a grocery store, just reading the labels and not boying anything. My fav sections are the bread and the dairy sections. I'm from finland so I don't really know what an e.g. american grocery store lookks like, but I've heard stories. How wide are the selections? Is there a light version of every product? I'd appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this (.

finland..american grocery stores?

oh wow! ive always wanted 2 visit there! is it cold over there? well american supermarkets vary in selections. some stores have great things others arent that well stocked (i hate those because they're usually the most overpriced ones). but yes, indeed, they have a wide variety of light/fat free products, including stuff like dairy, dressings, meat and even bread products. my favorites are the baby section tho because i have found alot of things i love eating such as cereal/oatmeal/cookies that have very little calories..i know im not supposed 2 b counting cals, but hey im a bulimic in recovery! lol some of the light things taste pretty good but others are just horrible! how r the grocery stores over in finland? what kind of things do they sell? im very curious =)

whoa

even bread? that sounds soooooo great *w*
It's horrible here. Right now it's -30 degrees celcius and I think I'm going to freeze to death.
Everyone else seems to like it, but I'm moving away as soon as I can.
We've got some lght-stuff, too, mostly dairy products, chips, sodas, candy and so on. I don't know much about meat products and such (lacto-ovo-vegetarian) but I think there're some things like less-fat chicken and such. What's living in america like? Does everyone hang out at the mall and eat at maccy d's everyday? I know I sound stupid, but I've never been there and my knowledge if based on what I see on tv .D

yes even bread!

but its dry as hell! dont quite like it so much unless its loaded w/butter (which would totally contradict the whole light purpose lol)..well i really like living in the US, well at least i love the state of California which is where im living..its great! the weather is just right, and like if u feel like going 2 the beach its just a couple of miles away, and if ur feeling like some snow u just have 2 drive a couple of hours and ur there! what im saying is that it is pretty much versatile. hmm well i personally dont frequent the malls very much (kind of far 2 go 2 if u dont have a car =[ plus i think i still love going 2 the grocery store more lol) but i can tell u that everyone's there on weekends, and it gets really busy during the holidays as well. where are u moving 2? i also wana visit norway and germany, well all of europe really. the only thing is that i hate the cold, cant stand it! looks very festive during christmas time tho..i wana go! wana trade places? lol

oh, and can u tell me what ur quote means? i cant read that lol

ooooooh<3.

I love dry bread! I usually eat my bread with nothing on top (just because I like the taste, not because of calories). California sounds so great, I'm really jealous. America must be really open-minded, right? Finland's quite conservative really, except for the capital. Especially the smaller towns are really hard to fit into if you're the slightest bit different. And there r hardly any foreigners here. I mean like when you walk down the street or so on, everyone's the same colour and every1 speaks the same language (and I hate it). I don't celebrate xmas myself, but it's quite a big thing here and it's really, really traditional. Every1 just sits @ home w/their families. I'd like to move to america, great britain, sweden, germany, australia, japan, spain, somewhere in south america...anywhere actually .D oh and the quote, it's from Miyavi's song jibun kakumei and it says "what could I do to not be myself?" i love bread 2!

but beleive me..it is suuuper dry so butter is definatly a requirement!hmmm well since there are alot of different people from around the world and they all have their customs acording 2 their cultures, it is indeed an openminded country. alot of people adopt the american traditions while others stick to their own..hmm hey so does this mean that if i go 2 finland one of these days i'll get some weird looks? (not that i mind, im quiet a freak lol) i still wana go, id love being able to experience different countries cultures up close..the only place out of the country ive ever been 2 is mexico (my parents are 4m there) and i do enjoy going there..its a pretty free country, lots of partying n booze n bars even on weekdays! but i wana try something different.

mmmm~

What's mexico like?
getting weird looks depends on where you travel, like if u go to the smallest little village in eastern finland with like 16 inhabitants, there might b some odd looks. I used to have green, blue, purple, (the list is endless) hair so I go quite a lot of staring too but I kinda liked it (.
omg mexico sounds like germany .D when my sister lived there I visited her and gods, you cans buy beer legally there if u r 16. HEAVEN. I also look a lot like her, so I got into bars with her ID (.
you went to bars in mexico? what were they like?

I loved supermarkets I went there everyday before touching the food...smelling the food but never buying it. I would check out calorie lables and so forth. It was almost like I was on the hunt for buying some clothes or something. I was a huge hoarder when I'd buy food and store it under my bed and around my room and so forth.

omg i know exactly what you

omg i know exactly what you are talking about. I go to the foodstore every day if not twice somedays and the people there also always look at me because i am always there and always buying large amounts of junk food, however my favorite aisles are the chip aisles and sometimes the cookie aisles. but other than just the food, i know the rush you feel and adrenaline you get just driving, knowing that you're going to the store( which relaxes me at least for the moment) then comparing the grams of each, calories, prices ounces, everything i can. it is such a rush. maybe i should not bring money like you so that i won't buy anything, so I can still get that rush but not feel its affects afterwards, ( if only i could stick to this notion, my life would be much better)

omg! i used to spend hours in the supermarkets even when I had a list of what to buy, I'll still compare prices, obsess about calories, e.t.c
one time I spent 3 hours shopping for food, and I already had food at home,
I used to hoard food and buy too much fruit and veg,. enough to feed ten ppl for a week and never eat everything because they all spoil. Ive wasted soo much money on food.
Im getting better now,. I give myself a time limit when I go shopping.

YES YES YES

I spend SO MUCH of my time just STUDYING the food in supermarkets- even if I've already gotten everything I 'need'
I obsess over all the sugary and fatty foods (chocolate!!) and after looking at them I think about them for HOURS at home. The thing with me is once I've tasted a little- I can't stop and when I'm obsessing over one particular type of food, i eat EVERYTHING in my way until i get it (leading to b/p arghh)
When I give in (most of the time) and tell myself Im going to get that ONE bar, i end up getting a whole basket full and then I convince myself that if anyone asks I'm going to say it's for my little brother's birthday party
so now I do my best to avoid them when I canxx

Me too!

I have a love/hate relationship with the grocery store. I keep my house clean of all sugary "bad" for you foods, but when I'm in that mind set I throw everything imaginable in my basket. It seems funny that I actually have to make a special trip to get the binge food. Wouldn't you think that it would be a deterant? I too have the intention of eating a little, then before I know it the whole cake is gone and I have to get rid of the evidence. I need a grocery store that only sells fruits and veggies! I do pretty good when I'm eating clean.

Omg...

That's me!!!

Literally spend hours in the supermarket reading labels, comparing fat, carbs, sugars and ingredients of cookies, bread, yogurts and everything!!!

I have avoided having anything "dangerous" at home, but end up going to the grocery - even more than one grocery sometimes! - to buy all the food I am craving.
So I adopted the "keep only little healthy sweets at home" strategy - and I used to keep some little chocolate bars or some wholegrain and seed bread. But in the very bad moments I end up eating everythig and than go to the grocery as well... Buy bars for my fictional brother as well... haha...
so common...
... so I feel less lonely in these weird behaviours :)

There’s a UK site with 3

There’s a UK site with 3 major supermarkets on it. It shows everything they stock, prices, calories, fat etc. Add stuff to the basket and it'll even recommend a "lighter" version for you.

I SPEND HOURS AND HOURS ON IT. HOURS AND HOURS. Completely obsessed. I get paranoid checking things in store that I'm being watched and if its a binge shop, I tend to buy too much and it could go on continuously for days so I like to plan

it's like window shopping for food?

Goodness.. the baby food comment absolutely made my day :] It's funny because I love the little granola bars and cracker type baby items, but I'll also buy the jars of veggie puree and convince myself it's not weird because they have Tons of nutrients! My boyfriend thinks it's adorable, my mom and sister just think I'm silly [they all know about the eating disorder]. Ever wonder what they are Really thinking?! haa.. that, and I wonder if the cashiers think that maybe, I just found out I'm pregnant or something. But I doubt I'll quit that habit anytime soon. At least baby foods aren't triggering to me at all, and that's what is the most important. Back to the topic of grocery stores though.. definitely know what you're talking about. I tend to go first to the international aisles- I love to cook, but more for the pleasure of "What can I make SO low calorie, with amazing taste?" I really won't even bother looking at the nutrition label on an item that doesn't already appear very healthful. Organic, All Natural, No Salt Added, and Sugar Free are I fear.. permanently diet "must haves". The worst, however, is when I Do have money to buy food.. whether it's all health food or not.. I buy waay more than I'll need, just because i'm Obsessed with having it in the house. I get stressed out when it's there, and even more stressed out when I don't have food to make the meals I want. Can I get a break? Eh..
