I have noticed that I am losing a lot of hair whenever I get out of the shower or finish brushing it. My hair is already very thin and fine so I don't want to lose any more! Does anyone know if this hair loss will grow back? Has anyone taken Biotin for it? Any suggestions?

Same with me...

For so long i couldn't understand why my hair was so thin and continued to fall out. I've been in recovery for a while now and its really thickened up and is shiny, healthy and much stronger than before. You have to remember with Eating Disorders, your body shuts down where ever possible to conserve energy sources so things like periods stop, you get hair loss etc.

I've had this problem for a while, on and off. I've always had quite thick hair and I seem to lose lots of hair but when I'm not doing so well, my hair really starts to thin out.

I went to my doctor who just told me to start taking more vitamins? I use all kinds of treatments on my hair and I know the reason my hair is falling out but it still freaks me out when I see it all on the floor after I've finished straightening it.

just add it to the list

The worst part about losing your hair is that it becomes another part of yourself that you are self-conscious about.
I was always known for my long, dark, thick hair; but as my bulimia progressed, so did the hair loss. I dreaded showers just for the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that followed every time i ran my fingers through my hair and pulled out first strands, then large clumps. It got so bad I refused to even go to my long time hair dresser because she would notice and I was so ashamed. I got close to buying Rogaine, but couldn't face the questioning look of the girl my age at the checkout counter...
People used to dote on my hair, and when i lost being defined by that quality, i realized i had kind of been hiding behind my hair (literally and figuratively haha). So I used losing that to really get to know the other aspects of myself--the parts that had nothing to do with my appearance.
And the best part: as I stopped thinking about my hair (and b/p) before i even realized it, my hair was stronger and already growing back.
Just get out of the destructive spiral and its amazing how things start start to improve, its a healing process.

hair loss/vitamins

I've been taking at least 2 multi-vitamins a day and just got Biotin in hopes of curbing this incessant hair loss. Has anyone made improvements after long-term use of vitamins?

so much of my hair fell out

so much of my hair fell out during my worst six months of bulimia: from morning til night binging puking. up to twenty times a day. my hair used to be normal (like in my display picture) and then it got to be about four inches long and super super thin. had to buy extensions because i looked like a boy . . so embarrassing. .

I just cut all of mine off.

I just cut all of mine off. As soon as it grows back I get angry and hack it off again.
I feel like maybe I associate my hair with my old self and I still cant accept that me and her are the same person...So I don't let myself have hair.

hey, i had this same problem,

hey, i had this same problem, i was so close to getting in a cab and going to see a doctor (my parents have no idea about my ED so i cudn't ask them what it was, i told my dad i was losing a lot of hair and he just told me to quit my diet and eat more... which, was not helpful at all)

for the next few days after my hair fell out drastically, i ate pretty healthily.. no junk food, lots of fruits and veggies, and i took a bunch of vitamins and calcium pills, and now it's stopped falling out.

hope that helps, all the best!

hair thin

WOW!

My hair used to be thick and recently over the last year it has gone incredibly thin. Now I know why- I didn't even think that it would be related to bulimia. Another motivation to stop- get my hair back!

Let me tell you what, the years go on and we're still fighting it.

I have the same prob. My hair

I have the same prob. My hair is falling out, especially in the shower. I used to have very thick curly hair now it's thin and flyaway. I got bald patches to, i can hide them by wearing my hair down or in certain way but im worried if i loose much more that i not going to e able to hide it.

Being a dancer and performing in plenty of shows makes it harder as i can only wear my hair in certain styles. :-(

I realy need to go to the hair dressers but im scared to, last time i went she noticed i had bald patches but she said it could be down to my shampoo, but now it so much worse, dont know what i would say???

So good to know that im not alone and that it will improve. xxx

Hair Transplantation

Hair Transplantation is a surgical technique that involves moving skin containing hair follicles from one part of the body (the donor site) to bald or balding parts (the recipient site). It is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness, whereby grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding are transplanted to bald scalp.
