Starting recovery again (after relapse) - confused about exercise?

I've technically been "in recovery" for almost 3 years but have relapsed very badly several times. I'm deciding today and now that I will again commit to recovery after a terrible bout.

My question is about exercise. I'm really used to doing crazy, till-i-die 2 hour workouts but I know that this isn't healthy or moderation. I've stopped exercising completely over the past few weeks though since all I can do is binge and think about food (sad but true). So, I know exercise is healthy, but would it be ok.. for now, to just go on some short walks? I know going to the gym triggers me into diet mode, and I don't know how to find a happy medium yet. Would taking it easy and being kind to my body be OK for a little while, until I can at least get the eating sorted?

Thanks

yes! i think walks are

yes! i think walks are awesome.I was the same: an exercise machine. I burned out after couple of years of shear dumbbell madness, and didnt exercise for 8 months while still being bulimic. Now that I am getting better and better I have been reintroducing exercising to 2-3x/week. and if I cant I dont sweat it (no pun intended!).
Walks are nice so you can get some fresh air, and enjoy the scenery around you and not whats floating negatively in your head. Plus, you arent at the gym, where seeing people of different shapes and sizes may trigger you. good luck, and enjoy the breeze!

I think u have to listen to

I think u have to listen to ur body and to ur self. If u feel like u r enjoying walking (maybe 2 hours a week) then I think u can do it but not overdue it like till u die .. and remember just if u like walking :)

I haven't been doing too well.. I'm staying out of the gym but have been walking 3-4 hours a day. I'm so tired and my body makes up for it by bingeing. When will it end

hey - maybe approach exercise

hey - maybe approach exercise like eating?

I know that exercise helps me. I am more dependent on it than the average bear, but it is not encroaching on my life too much and has a net positive effect (I doo feel better for it).

However, 3-4 hours is just too large a chunk out of a 24 hour day. Plus, it seems like it is a big weight in your life. How about planning your exercise/setting an exercise quota. Don't just cut it out, or say that from tomorrow you'll only do half an hour. Work away at it. Do a little less each week. Keep in mind some other fun activities you can do with te time you make.

Another idea is to make your exercise a little more social. This is a personal thing; if it will stress you out a great deal maybe it's not a great idea for the moment. However, playing a sport or simply walking with someone else might break down the 'compulsive' factor of exercise and make it more of a joy.

Don't beat yourself up over exercise - it is good that you do exercise. Just work on bringing it down to a level that allows time, energy & headspace enough for an enjoyable day =) Slowly slowly wins the race, hey.

All the best - we're all behind you!
