The danger of deprivation

When people go on a diet they normally deprive themselves of certain foods. Depriving yourself day in and day out of these foods will eventually result in a binge.

If you deprive yourself you will think you are missing out, just by thinking this alone will make you want or think more about your deprived foods.

Several studies been shown dieters experience powerful urges to eat, excessive preoccupation with food and an out of control feeling when around food.

This will not help; in fact it is a recipe (excuse the pun) for disaster. Deprivation alone can lead to binging, so deprivation and starvation combined is not a good combination.

Fact Box

It is simple human behavior, whenever you are deprived something you always want it more.

If you told someone they can not ever use a blue pen, they can use any color of pen in the world except blue. "Sure" they would say "thats easy!". But over time they would start to wonder "whats so good about blue pens anyway?". Next they would start to notice whenever someone else was using a blue pen "look over there, hes using a blue pen!". Everywhere they looked they would see blue pens and people using them. Eventually they would become obsessed, all their willpower would crumble, they would grab the nearest blue pen and start to write ferociously (and the feeling would be heaven!). Afterwards they would probably feel guilty and wonder whats wrong with themselves. "I can't even prevent myself from using a blue pen. I'm such a boozo".

The same happens with children, if you tell a child not to look inside that dusty old box in the corner of the room, they will wonder why and do everything possible to have a sneaky peak.
